EP 900 The Flames of California Will One Day Affect Most Americans Wherever You Live

We like to imagine that we are safe and immune from much of what we see on the news.  In the case of wildfires, people on the east coast might see it as a west coast phenomenon.  Yet, there have been such fires in New Jersey and the Carolinas recently.  Even those living outside of Los Angeles might have imagined that the wildfire devastation that so often has visited northern California would spare them. Yet, there are too many conditions in play–arson, overgrown forests, global warming and overdevelopment–that suggest that no one is immune from the ravages of fire.  And there are only some of us who, when seeing it, have the courage to rush toward it to stop it, as opposed to away from it.  One such person is Kelly Ramsey, a former federal Hot Shot firefighter who details her exploits, and those of her team, in “Wildfire Days: A Woman, a Hotshot Crew, and the Burning American West.”  She’s a fascinating person, a great writer and a brave soul whose message needs to be heard.  Listen in.
